El Salvador’s Centre for the Confinement of Terrorism, widely known as CECOT, has become one of the most discussed prison facilities in the world. Located roughly 70 kilometers east of San Salvador, the facility was built as part of President Nayib Bukele’s large-scale security strategy aimed at addressing gang violence in the country.
