Police Officer Proposed to His Girlfriend Hours Before a Tragic Rescue Attempt

A day that began with celebration ended in heartbreaking tragedy for the  family, friends, and colleagues of Arkansas police officer Fred Marsh, whose final act was an attempt to save the woman he had just asked to marry.

According to authorities and family members, Marsh died after entering the water to help his fiancée during a canoeing trip on the Elk River near Noel, Missouri. His passing deeply affected both his local community and the Rogers Police Department, where he had only recently begun serving as an officer.
