Last Saturday, during a neighborhood gathering in Cedar Falls, my 12-year-old son, Ethan, found himself thrust into an unexpected and heroic role. It started like any other weekend, with neighbors chatting and children running around, when suddenly, smoke billowed from the shed behind one of the houses. At first, everyone froze in shock, unsure of what to do. But as the flames grew, something caught Ethan’s attention. From inside the thick smoke, he heard the unmistakable cry of a toddler.
