Doctors Initially Diagnosed a Common Condition, but the Teen’s Health Deteriorated Soon After

The tragic death of 17-year-old Jack Dunn in 2019 brought renewed attention to diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a serious medical emergency that can develop in people with type 1 diabetes and, in some cases, before the condition has even been diagnosed.

Jack, from Porth, Wales, was taken to hospital after experiencing severe stomach pain that had become so intense he could barely walk. His family hoped doctors would quickly identify the cause of his symptoms and provide the treatment he needed.
